Cafe 900

Fodor's choice

This bi-level restaurant and bar opens at 8 am for breakfast and doesn't close until late. Decorated with old guitars and various knickknacks and furnished with leather couches, it's one of the few options in Chiclayo with charm. Tapas and sandwiches dominate the long menu, and there are twenty or so different desserts. The superb cocktail list features new looks at Peruvian favorites, like the chilcano de hierba luisa (made with lemongrass, pisco, lime, bitters, and ginger ale). There's occasionally live jazz and folk music.

Nowhere Cerveza Artesanal

Fodor's choice
Tucked up a side alley in a quiet part of town, this Canadian-Peruvian-owned brewery and beer garden is a popular hangout. To make things more interesting, the beer selection changes each fortnight, offering up all the shades of ale—from cream to red and sour. The industrial-chic bar has tall, comfy tables and chairs where you can feast on proper American-styled hamburgers (S/18) and staple bar food, and the open, well-tended garden welcomes smokers. It shuts by 11 pm (come early to enjoy the happy hours), and it's closed on Sunday and Monday for brewing more beers.

729 Café-Bar

Cocteles del autor and old-fashioned, round-the-hearth furnishings make this bar a favorite on cold Andean nights. Sit back in one of the easy chairs, and listen to the DJ spin Latin pop hits, or order a piqueo (snack tray) from the excellent kitchen.
