Why We Like It
The private decks that look onto the forest are a great place to spend your time taking in the surroundings, giving you the full Volcano experience, and spacious rooms make for a comfortable stay. The continental breakfast also makes for a really nice treat.
Fodor's Expert Review
This small, but cheery inn is home to four rooms set amongst five acres of tropical foliage. It’s in the heart of Volcano Village, right next to the post office, in walking distance from many of the small town’s restaurants and stores. Though the interior is a bit older in appearance, the outside of the inn is charming and settles in nicely amongst the forest. New management as of the summer of 2018 has upgraded the inn a bit with new dehumidifiers, towels, bedding, and property lighting.
You Should Know This is not the best option for families with younger children – in fact, kids must be at least six years old to stay on property.

Room
The four rooms feature walk-in closets, hardwood floors, heavy curtains for a more peaceful sleep, and best of all each has its own private deck. You’ll spend a lot of time enjoying the landscape and birds while enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. Two rooms have king beds, two have queen beds, and rates go up for anything higher than double occupancy.
Bathroom
Simple bathrooms are fairly spacious. Sinks have granite tops, and the bathrooms contain tub/shower combos.
Dining
Though there is no on-site restaurant, hosts serve a light continental breakfast and local coffee in the dining room.
Tip If there aren’t a lot of other guests, take breakfast to go and enjoy on your lanai. Singing birds and rain drops serenading you make for the perfect way to start the day. Otherwise, spend a bit of time getting to know your hosts and fellow guests in the dining room.

You will need a car to reach your accommodations and explore other parts of the island.
Restaurants
A great spot for grab and go breakfast or lunch is Eagles Lighthouse Café (5-min walk) for both standard lighter fare and more Hawaiian leaning dishes like a fried rice breakfast bowl. Keep things a little lighter at Café Ono (4-min drive) where you can find health conscious fare in an old Hawaiian garden estate.
Bars
Go to Lava Lounge at the Kilauea Military Camp (8-min drive) for no nonsense cocktails at great prices, as well as occasional live music (you’ll need your Volcanoes National Park pass to get in). For a little more upbeat, but still laid-back night life with live music, mostly Kona Brewery beers on tap and a standard bar full of liquor, Hilo Town Tavern (45-min drive) is your best bet for rubbing elbows with locals at this semi-dive bar that has live music, sports on a few screens, and a couple of pool tables.
