Getting Here and Around

The city of Wilmington is less than 45 minutes by car via I–95 South from Philadelphia and is easily accessible by AMTRAK. But since you won't want to miss visiting Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, or some of the other stately mansions in the area, you'll want to have a car. Typically, those driving south from Philadelphia to Wilmington during rush hours will encounter some traffic, but not gridlock, because the commute mostly runs the opposite way. Downtown Wilmington is compact and walkable, but it tends to shut down after business hours.
