Miners gathered around card games in most of the nearly 100 saloons in Cripple Creek, which opened during the wild years after Bob Womack discovered gold in the late 1800s. Today there's a lineup of casinos set into storefronts and buildings with exteriors retaining the aura they had a century ago. But today the casinos are chock-full of slot machines, video and live poker tables, roulette, craps, and blackjack tables.
Most of the casinos on East Bennett Avenue house predictable (albeit inexpensive) restaurants. Beef is the common denominator across all the menus. Some casinos also have hotel rooms.
