There are more than 20 casinos in Black Hawk and Central City. Many of the casinos in Central City are in buildings dating from the 1860s—from jails to mansions—and their plush interiors have been lavishly decorated to re-create the Old West era, a period when this town was known as the "Richest Square Mile on Earth." Black Hawk looks like builders stuck a load of glitzy hotels and casinos right in the middle of once-quiet mountainous terrain. Virtually every casino has a restaurant with the usual all-you-can-eat buffet. The biggest casinos are in newer buildings in Black Hawk. Hotel deals are common.
