Why We Like It

If Parisians are famous for attitude, you wouldn’t know it here, where a warm welcome in a cozy atmosphere with all the little touches that make it feel like home await you. Plus, you’ll discover a discretely charming corner of the city known only to the local that's just a few minutes metro ride from the city center.

Fodor's Expert Review

Small, family owned hotels, where warmth and friendliness are the rule, are nearly a thing of the past. Not at the Apollon, where not only are you received as though a welcome family guest, you are treated to a standard of cleanliness, taste and hospitality that confirm a high level of care. A nice surprise in a budget hotel.

You Should Know A very good hotel indeed, but still basic. for those seeking luxuries like a fitness room or other perks, this hotel may not be for you.

Room

All of the hotel’s 33 compact rooms and suites are comfortable, tastefully decorated and quiet (and air conditioned). Decorated in warm tones with bright accent colors and contemporary furnishings, they feel more cozy than small, with a frisson of Paris chic. Standard singles and doubles are small to be sure, but they make up in comfort what they lack in size. Families appreciate the adjoining room option for two adults and two kids.

Tip Be sure to book directly with the hotel (online or by phone) for a rate 10-15 percent less than the booking sites. Be sure to check on their frequent specials too.

Bathroom

The classic white-tiled bathrooms are small but well equipped and up to date. Showers have good pressure and everything’s sparkling clean. A nice touch: bath products are from the famous Provence spa La Couvent des Minimes.

Lobby

Small, welcoming and chic, you’re encouraged to relax on the sofa or in an easy chair any time of day with a paper or magazine. You may even have the good fortune to meet the owners’ golden adorable retriever, Samba (who can also be seen at Hôtel de Londres Eiffel, because it has the same owners!).

Dining

A classic continental breakfast is served in the “cave,” an attractive stone cellar in the basement. With pleasant lighting to accent the old curved ceilings, the lack of natural light isn’t an issue.

Tip Don't miss nearby rue Daguerre, one of the city's best market streets.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

From the Pernety metro you are two stops from Montparnasse station, a major hub where four major lines—headed in all four directions—converge. From Montparnasse it’s basically a 15-20-minute metro ride to the sights in central Paris. From the Pernety station it’s a 10-minute direct ride to the Musée Rodin and a 15-minute direct ride to the Champs-Élysée. Connections at Montparnasse station can be a very long walk. If you’re in a hurry, factor an extra five minutes into your schedule. Be prepared to ride some moving sidewalks to shorten the journey.

This is an out-of-the-way neighborhood, but close to public transport and within an easy walk of many sites worth seeing, starting with the Montparnasse cemetery, where many famous Parisians are laid to rest (including Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir), the Catacombs, and the Fondation Cartier for contemporary art. Whatever you do don't miss the rue Daguerre market street, it's one of the best in Paris and only a 10-minute walk away.

Restaurants

Join the locals at Les Petits Plats, a circa 1910 bistro complete with mirrors, tiled floors, long bar, and all the usual classic codes that let you know you're in for a fine evening of classic French dining and wine (10-minute walk). Or for something a bit more elegant, Le Jeroboam is slightly farther afield but worth the walk for well-priced gastronomic French dining in a laid back atmosphere (12-minute walk).

Bars

Across the cemetery, La Coupôle's late hours and large terrace are perfect for a glass of wine or a nightcap. If you want to get a little fancier, but no less historic, La Closerie de Lilas's piano bar is a fine place to settle in for a drink, at least Baudelaire, Zola, Hemingway, Picasso and a dozen other notable authors and artists thought so (15-minute walk).
