Getting Here and Around

Air New Zealand is the only airline operating to Norfolk Island. Twice-weekly flights depart from Sydney and Brisbane with flight times of approximately 2½ hours.

Measuring just 8 km (5 miles) by 5 km (3 miles) and with an area of 8,537 acres, Norfolk Island is tiny and remote. It lies about 1,410 km (875 miles) directly east of the Australian mainland and well northwest of New Zealand, and south of New Caledonia. The capital, Kingston, and the historic ruins and museums are on the southern shore, as is Emily Bay (the only beach suitable for swimming), which is a few hundred yards to the east of Kingston. The main town of Burnt Pine is in the middle of the island, and Norfolk Island National Park is a mile or so farther north.
