Fodor's Expert Review Wasaí Tambopata Lodge

Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, Peru

Nestled between the Tambopata River and a 7,400-acre private nature reserve traversed by miles of trails, this eco-friendly lodge offers access to lots of wildlife, especially on early-morning trips to the nearby Collpa Chuncho clay lick to see hundreds of macaws and parrots.

Bungalow accommodations are basic, but private and airy. The lodge is reached by a four-hour bus-and-boat trip or a less expensive, two-hour drive and 3-km (2-mile) hike through the forest.
