Why We Like It

You know what you’re getting with this no-fuss, no-frills hotel, part of Marriott's Residence Inn family. And, as always, the breakfast and evening mix is a plus. The quiet neighborhood is especially beautiful on a crisp autumn morning when the trees are turning color.

Fodor's Expert Review

If you have business in the George Washington University neighborhood of Foggy Bottom, especially for an extended stay, this is a good working hotel with the same reliable standards of Residence Inns elsewhere. Tourists use it as a convenient base as well. All rooms are suites with full kitchens, writing desks, dining tables, and sofa beds. The buffet breakfast is expensive, and you’re within walking distance of the National Mall, Georgetown, and the Kennedy Center. The rooftop pool is a plus.

Tip The surrounding Foggy Bottom neighborhood becomes quiet outside work hours. You might want to be sure to have groceries in your room to cook.

Room

While pretty much cookie cutter, suites are spacious, with full kitchens and separate living, working, and sleeping areas.

Bathroom

Again, cookie cutter is not a bad thing. You have everything you need. Amenities are Paul Mitchell.

Lobby

There are plenty of workspaces and meeting spots in this furniture-crowded lobby, whether it’s on sofas or around small tables or at the long table in the middle. The small check-in desk stands by the door, the two computer desks bookending the TV apparently comprise the business center. The breakfast area is tucked away at the far end, the pleasant aroma of pancake wafting throughout the entire space in the morning.

You Should Know A complimentary happy hour takes place in the evenings Monday through Wednesday.

Pool

There’s a seasonal rooftop pool.

Gym

The fitness room has standard cardiovascular equipment and free weights.

Dining

There is no hotel restaurant; local restaurants deliver.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

This hotel is in the heart of the George Washington University neighborhood, convenient to the Foggy Bottom metro. You are within easy walking distance of the Kennedy Center, as well as the western end of the National Mall (including Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Memorial).

Restaurants

CIRCA (3-minute walk) offers New American fare in a trendy setting—burgers, pasta and fancy cocktails. Right across the street, Notti Bianche is a classic Italian restaurant with only 42 seats, ensuring a sense of intimacy. While the entrées are good, the desserts are even better.

Bars

The Next Whisky Bar (9-minute walk) might be in the lobby of the fabled Watergate Hotel, but it’s not just another lobby bar. Mod red armchairs, walls of pellucid whiskey bottles, and a “Mad Men” mood set the scene for sophisticated sipping.

La Piazza (8-minute walk) is a quiet, contemporary bar that’s especially appealing on winter nights, when you can cozy up beneath blankets and sip cocktails (try the coffee with bourbon and maple syrup) as you roast s’mores in the fire.
