Boulder

To give you an idea of just how out-of-the-way Boulder, Utah is, mail was delivered to Boulder by horse and mule until 1940. Today, Boulder isn't quite so remote. Scenic Highway 12 keeps it connected to travelers looking to see and feel the authentic western life. Cattle ranchers founded the town, and ranching continues to occupy many residents. The town of Escalante is larger, but Boulder has one of the finest lodges and restaurants (Boulder Mountain Lodge and its renowned Hell's Backbone Grill) in the state, making it a go-to for many traveling through the region. The town is also the western terminus of the famed Burr Trail, a scenic 66-mile route that passes through portions of Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument and Capitol Reef National Park on its way southeast to the northern end of Glen Canyon.
