Why We Like It

What the hotel lacks in ambiance and location makes up for in comfort level. The Hyatt Grand Bed is a pretty sweet deal for the weary travel. If making sure you have a comfortable night sleep is a priority, this hotel is a sound option. Just know that you’re going to have to rent a car or take an Uber to get anywhere interesting.

Fodor's Expert Review

Set back from the roar of I–35, this handsome five-floor hotel built isn't the usual off-ramp inn. The lobby has a convenient 24/7 café menu and grab-and-go market, serving Starbucks drinks, sandwiches, and beer and wine most of the day. Hot breakfasts are complimentary, with updated items like garden vegetable and egg white skillet sandwiches. Spacious rooms have contemporary accents like screens separating the lounge area from the bedroom; all have pull-out sofas. The 42-inch flat-screen TVs have ports for laptops and swivel to allow for viewing in different rooms. Decent restaurants are nearby, but most of the city’s hotspots are a drive away.

Each of the 120 minimal but practical rooms feature the famous Hyatt Grand Bed—a Sealy Posturepedic mattress, down pillows, 250-thread sheets and duvet with triple sheeting. The marble-and-wood sinks and vanities are separate from the spacious shower and toilet room. All bathrooms come with KenetMD™ bath products.

The Gallery Kitchen offers free breakfast every day. The menu serves up items like cage-free eggs, Greek yogurt and breakfast bowls. What's Nearby

Getting Around

Located where two highways meet means this hotel is not pedestrian-friendly. You’re staying about a 12-minute drive from downtown, so renting a car or hailing a taxi or Uber makes better sense.

Restaurants

The immediate area is surrounded by chain restaurants. Next door is an Applebee’s Grill + Bar (3-minute walk), Buffalo Wild Wings (4-minute walk) and Denny’s (6-minute drive). If you want something local, head to Tex-Mex eatery Vivo (7-minute drive) and Peruvian restaurant Lima Criolla (5-minute drive). Both offer a unique and local experience.

Bars

Ojos Locos Sports Cantina (3-minute walk) is located in the same parking lot. Similar to Hooter’s, this, er, breastaurant, offers Mexican fare, decadent mixed drinks and beer in frozen glasses. For something a little less busty, check out Black Star Co-op, a co-op brewery that gives their employees a livable wage. Beers are rotated seasonally and the popular spot also hosts trivia nights and live music.
