Fodor's Expert Review Mineral Palace

601 Main St., Deadwood, South Dakota, 57732, USA

As at the other hotels built in town since gaming was reintroduced in 1989, the architecture of Mineral Palace blends in with the historic buildings of Deadwood while the rooms have modern furnishings, but with floral bedspreads, burgundy carpeting, and hardwood trim that give them a slightly Victorian look. There are Jacuzzis in the VIP and Royal suites. The Gem Steakhouse and Saloon serves a variety of steaks for dinner and is also open for breakfast and lunch.

PROS

  • easy to walk everywhere in Deadwood from here
  • on-site steak house is one of the tastiest in town
  • liquor store and gift shop on-site

CONS

  • some no-smoking rooms still have a hint of smoke smell
  • street noise is common in this very walkable area
  • parking is limited and can be problematic
