Why We Like It

The Old Village neighborhood is a hidden gem of the Lowcountry. With historic homes, tidy lawns, and white picket fences galore, it’s a living postcard—and the inn puts you in the middle of it all. You’ll have a scrumptious time at the restaurant below you, and are just a short drive away from all that Charleston has to offer.

Fodor's Expert Review

Mount Pleasant’s most charming neighborhood, the Old Village, holds this gem of a B&B. Comprised of six quaint guest rooms outfitted is period reproductions (fitting for the circa 1880s property), the Old Village Post House inn is a great fit for foodies as it’s located directly above the delicious same-named restaurant. It’s just a short drive to both downtown and Sullivan’s Island, but you’ll want to spend time ambling around the neighborhood, too, as it’s rife with picturesque homes and shops.

Tip After existing the inn, take a left onto Venning Street and walk straight. In a block and a half you’ll reach the marsh, where you’ll be looking out over Hog Island Channel.

Room

No two rooms are alike—some feature a king-sized four-poster rice bed; others, a two-poster queen and separate sitting room with a pullout sofa—but all are filled with dark-wood antiques or reproductions and colorful walls and bedding. Rooms are spread throughout the second and third floors, with the restaurant and tavern bar on the ground level.

You Should Know Sensitive to noise? You’ll want to opt for a room on the third floor as clanks from the kitchen can drift into second-floor suites.

Bathroom

Each suite stars a whirlpool tub; otherwise, bathrooms are pretty standard.

Lobby

With a restaurant, bar, and six guest rooms squeezed into the white wooden three-story building, there aren’t common spaces for lounging around. However, there’s a charming courtyard out back if you need to stretch your legs.

Dining

The Old Village Post House restaurant is one of the finest eateries in Mount Pleasant and often lures locals over the bridge from downtown. B&B patrons receive a hearty extended continental breakfast in the dining room: you can expect flaky pastries, fluffy eggs, meat, yogurt, and fresh fruit.

Drinking

Take a seat at the bar to choose from a handful of local beers, craft cocktails, and wines by the glass and bottle.
