Hiking

Pacific Crest Trail. Cascade Locks bustles with grubby thru-hikers refueling along the 2,650-mile Canada-to-Mexico Pacific Crest Trail, which was immortalized in the 2014 movie, Wild starring Reese Witherspoon. Check out a scenic and strenuous portion of it, heading south from the trailhead at Herman Creek Horse Camp, just east of town. The route heads up into the Cascades, showing off monster views of the Gorge. Backpackers out for a longer trek will find idyllic campsites at Wahtum Lake, 14 miles south. You can also access the trail from the free parking area at Toll House Park, by the Bridge of the Gods. Off N.W. Forest La., 1 mile east of downtown, Cascade Locks, Oregon, 97014. 541/308–1700; www.pcta.org.
