Fodor's Expert Review Epaulet

Carroll Gardens

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The preppy plaids, luxe leathers, and warm woolen knits at this small, his-and-her (emphasis on his) clothing shop feel like J.Crew graduated and got a PhD in rugged individualism. Epaulet was one of the early harbingers of the neighborhood's gentrification, and you can see how: button-downs and chinos will set you back more than $100, while the price tags on high-end sportcoats and leather bomber jackets could be a hefty chunk of the rent on local brownstones. Knowledgeable co-owners Adele Berne and Michael Kuhle are as warm as the cardigans and pullovers they’re happy to help you try on.
