The Algonquin offers a nice mix of modern updates and historic roots in one attractive property. We love the clubby lobby lounge, the atmosphere of the Round Table restaurant, and the literary accents throughout.
Fodor's Expert Review
One of Manhattan’s most storied properties, the Algonquin is a landmark of literary history—think oak paneling and pillars in the lobby—but with modernized rooms and contemporary comforts. Signed works of former Round Table raconteurs can be checked out in the library.
You Should Know Standard rooms are a tight 165-square-feet (!!!).

Room
Striking black-and-white photographs of old New York take center stage in the modern rooms, with tufted leather headboards, big work desks, and carpets with contemporary patterns.
Tip The John Barrymore Suite is a big, split-level suite with a deep soaking tub and enough room for entertaining.
Bathroom
Renovated bathrooms have glass walk-in showers along with plush robes and towels plus Beekman 1802 bath products.
Lobby
Leather couches, comfy armchairs, and oak paneled walls decorate the spacious lobby lounge. Snacks and drinks are served in this restored space.
Dining
Once the preferred gathering place of writers like Dorothy Parker, The Round Table restaurant is a literary landmark. Today, three meals a day are served, with plenty of space—in the longstanding tradition of the Algonquin—for animated conversation.
Drinking
The hotel bar, Blue Bar, has been around since 1933. A renovation in 2012 brought a contemporary feel to the space, including a (very fitting) blue glow to the lighting.
