Fodor's Expert Review Grey Cliffs Ranch
1915 Lakota Dr., Three Forks, Montana, 59752, USA
Located on a 5,000-acre working ranch with world-class fly-fishing access, this striking luxury lodge just 30 minutes from downtown Bozeman is often used as a vacation home for its owners. For that reason, the decor (think lots of taxidermy) and artwork (including an original Winchester gun) make it a destination in itself. The meals are as extraordinary as the setting. Don't be surprised to see deer or even elk from your bedroom or bunkroom window. Included in the rate is access to a full bar and wine list as well as ranch activities like shooting, hiking, fishing, horseback riding and even pottery lessons with the ranch manager's wife who has a studio on site.
PROS
- unrivaled views of the surrounding mountain ranges
- feels like you're staying in a well-equipped luxury home
- serves superb, locally sourced dishes
CONS
- the location is remote so cell phone service is iffy
- off a gravel road and requires an AWD vehicle in the winter
- personal alcohol is not allowed
