Tipping

People who work in the service industry rely on tips, so tipping is not only common, but expected.

Tip bartenders ($1–$5 per round of drinks, depending on the number of drinks); bellhops ($1–$5 per bag, depending on the level of the hotel and whether you have bulky items like golf clubs and surfboards); hotel concierges ($5 or more, depending on the service); hotel maids ($1–$3 per day); taxi drivers (15%–20% of the fare); tour guides (10% of the cost of the tour); valet parking attendants ($1–$3, each time you pick up your car); and waiters (15%–20%, with 20% being the norm at high-end restaurants).
