Why We Like It

This upcountry lodging option offers lovely ocean and mountain views, clean rooms, and some of the best rates on the island, not to mention some of the friendliest proprietors one can hope to find. The communal nature may be off putting for some, but others find it a positive attribute, allowing them to meet other travelers in a laid back setting.

Fodor's Expert Review

Enjoy sweeping views of the North Shore and West Maui Mountains in this B&B set on the edge of a quiet pineapple plantation town on the lower slopes of Haleakala. Although there's nothing to do or see within walking distance, it's only 15 minutes from Kahului and less than 10 from Paia, Haiku, and Makawao. Owners Mika and Tammi renovated "the lodge" with new flooring, Memory Foam mattresses, bathroom upgrades, and other improvements. Seven modest rooms have pantries and mini-refrigerators. Guests share three shower rooms and three separate "powder rooms," a kitchen, and living room. A light continental breakfast is included. An amply equipped two-bedroom cottage (including fresh-cut flowers) sleeps four to six. If you're lucky, the family dog will sit near the jacuzzi while you relax after a hard day's adventuring.

You Should Know If having good WiFi is important to you during your visit, you’ll want to bring a hotspot -- it can be really slow and spotty here.

Tip If you’re traveling with a group, renting the cottage is one of the best deals you’re going to find on the island. It’s private, has a nice lanai with grill, and it’s recently been renovated, including updated floors and appliances. Note that there is a three-night minimum.

Bathroom

The cottage is the only option with a private bathroom; the rest of the rooms share three bathrooms and three showers.

There is no lobby at this B&B.

Pool

Guests share a hot tub in the backyard.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

It’s easy (and preferable) to explore Maui’s smaller towns by foot, but to get to them and around the island, you’ll need to rent a car. If you plan on exploring the Road to Hana, get something with a little extra horsepower (but not too big as the road can get very narrow).

Restaurants

If you’re looking to eat more like a local, Da Kitchen (14-min drive) is the place to dine. Their menu includes fun versions of Hawaiian favorites like fried Spam musubi, chicken katsu sandwich served with potato mac salad, traditional plate lunches, and loco mocos. Most of these make great meals to-go, so grab a plate and head to the beach for a picnic!

Find fresh, vibrant food at Fork and Salad (15-min drive), featuring signature, as well as build-your-own salads, grain bowls, and sandwiches made with a wide variety of mostly local and organic ingredients. These healthy options make a great choice to pick up for a beach picnic or day of hiking.

Bars

Beer lovers should pull up a bar stool for a while at What Ales You (32-min drive), with its wall of 20 rotating taps that focus on a large variety of craft beers that staff has lovingly curated. If you’re not a beer lover, the bar also has some wine options, along with standard bar food fare.

The nightlife is bustling at Charley’s Restaurant and Saloon (14-min drive), where music happens every night of the week. Restaurant by day and night, after 10 p.m. it’s a drink-slinging good time, with beer, wine, and a full bar. The daily happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. offers up some great prices along with discounted food, as well.
