When to Go

Colorado Springs is a good year-round choice because winters are relatively mild. Late spring or early summer is best if you want adrenaline-rush rafting, because the snowmelt feeds the rivers. Summer is tourist season everywhere in south central Colorado. Early fall is another good time to visit, especially when the aspen leaves are turning gold. Some of the lodging properties in the smaller towns are closed in winter, although there are always some open for the cross-country skiers who enjoy staying in the small high-mountain towns.
