When to Go
Spring, when wildflowers are in bloom and the scent of fruit blossoms is in the air, and fall, when the air is brisk and leaves turn red and gold, are the best times to visit. Many festivals take place during these seasons. (If you suffer from allergies, though, beware of spring, when stone-fruit trees blossom.) Summer, when temperatures often top 100 degrees F, can be oppressive, though area water parks and lakes provide respite. Many attractions close in winter. Thick, ground-hugging tule fog is a common driving hazard at this time.
