Why We Like It

The eco-chic and pet-friendly Hotel Indigo is steps from the Gaslamp Quarter and the trolley station. The hotel’s stylish rooms have a hip urban condo feel, with hardwood floors, eclectic modern decor, and expansive city views that include Petco Park and the domed Central Library. Even if your room view is so-so, the hotel’s Level 9 rooftop bar helps make up for it. And the Gaslamp has lots of restaurants and bars to boot.

Room

Condo-like rooms feature hardwood floors, large windows, modern furniture, and eclectic decor like bold floral bedspreads, and oversized mural walls of almost abstract succulents and water ripples. A palette of blues and bright oranges pops against crisp white walls. The upgraded rooms are swank. Some have epic Petco Park views -- as in, you’re looking down on the stands and field of San Diego’s baseball stadium (Go Padres!) -- as well as suites with private terraces and lots of extra space. City views also include neighboring high-rises and San Diego’s domed, skyline-defining Central Library.

Tip Doggos are welcome here! You don’t even have to pay a cleaning fee, and the hotel offers a doggie daycare package.

Bathroom

Chic and eco-friendly bathrooms go for an organic-modern look, with crisply painted walls in earthy hues, a large wood vanity topped with a stone counter, and a spacious walk-in spa shower with a pebble tile border and teak bench. The fancier rooms include a soaking tub.

Lobby

With a water-wall, bamboo plantings, and illuminated check-in counters wrapped in soothing, morphing imagery, the lobby has a zen vibe. A chic seating area features a wingback sofa and chairs in Creamsicle hues, tropical plants in modern planters, and coasted accents.

Gym

A small but attractive fitness center features two treadmills, a crosstrainer, a stationary bike, a strength machine and free weights.

Dining

Hotel Indigo’s 509 Kitchen and Bar serves seasonal fare with an emphasis on locally grown and made products, ranging from ultra-fresh produce to cheese, beer, and cupcakes.

Drinking

Sleek rooftop bar Level 9 hits it out of the park with views of downtown and the baseball stadium. The terrace has bar seating, tables, lounge chairs with bright orange curtains, and tiled contemporary fire pits.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

With the Convention Center trolley station a mere 5-minute walk away, guests can see a lot of sights without a car. The trolley’s Green Line services the Gaslamp Quarter, the Santa Fe Depot (home to Amtrak and the Coaster, which services coastal communities to the north), Little Italy, Old Town, and the world-class Fashion Valley shopping center. Interstate 5, a major north-south freeway, is about a mile from the hotel; I-5 connects to other highways that cover the sprawling region.

Restaurants

The Gaslamp Quarter is home to more than 100 restaurants and bars, so good luck if you’re indecisive. For breakfast, The Mission (5-minute walk) is a San Diego classic, the kind of place locals stand in line for on weekends. Go on a weekday (you’re on vacation!) and you’ll get right in. The large menu includes items like eggs and rosemary potatoes, breakfast chilaquiles, strawberry banana pancakes, and surprisingly delicious soy-chorizo dishes, as well as excellent drip and frou-frou coffee drinks (the Mission also serves lunch). On your way there, pop inside the dome-topped Central Library -- the views from the top are unparalleled in downtown San Diego. Right across from Petco Park, Basic (2-minute walk) is anything but. Housed in a former 1912 warehouse replete with roll-up garage doors, brick walls, and exposed ceilings, Basic serves delicious thin-crust pizza straight from the brick oven, and also has a good bar scene. Don’t even think about going before or after a Padres game.

Bars

Surrounded by sleek urban high-rises, Half Door Brewing Company (1-minute walk) is hard to miss. Tucked inside an old two-story house with a wraparound porch, the bar looks like it’s been there forever, with herringbone wood floors, inset hex tile, and a gleaming carved wood bar with brass footrests, but it actually was built just a few years ago with salvaged goods from as far as Ireland. The beer is brewed on-site in a high-tech, compact 10-barrel system. Cafe Sevilla (7-minute walk), a longtime Spanish restaurant and bar with tons of character, is known for its delicious sangria, flamenco shows, and nightly live music.
