Embassy Suites–San Diego Bay
601 Pacific Hwy., San Diego, California, 92101, United States, San Diego, California, USAWhy We Like It
Panoramic water views and an extremely convenient location are the main draws at this Embassy Suites location on San Diego Bay, as is the hotel’s reliable level of quality and comfort. Close to Seaport Village and the San Diego Trolley’s Green Line, which connects to many San Diego destinations, the hotel is also in walking distance of Little Italy, the Gaslamp Quarter, and the Convention Center. A light-flooded, plant-filled lobby, indoor pool, and complimentary made-to-order breakfast are also perks.
Fodor's Expert Review
In a quiet corner of the Downtown core, the Embassy Suites San Diego Bay has panoramic views of the bay, a beautiful indoor pool, a light-flooded lobby filled with plants and koi ponds, and comfortable upscale digs, which include a front door that opens out onto a 12-story atrium. There’s also a daily complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast. But the best part? The hotel is a block from the Seaport Village trolley station, giving guests easy access to the Gaslamp Quarter, the Santa Fe Depot, Little Italy, Old Town, and the world-class Fashion Valley shopping center.
Tip The trolley is convenient and also kind of slow depending where you're going.

Room
The hotel’s suites include a master bedroom with a king bed or two doubles. The decor is a generic but pleasant mix of patterned carpet, contemporary furniture, and nautical wall art, but rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. The living room includes a seating area with a sofa and dining table, while the master bedroom has a plush bed and large windows. Premium rooms feature a glass slider and small balcony. For a splurge, opt for a water-facing room, worth it for the expansive views of the bay and USS Midway Aircraft Carrier. The front door of each suite opens out onto a 12-story atrium.
Bathroom
Roomy and nicely appointed, with bathrooms feature taupe walls, a dark wood vanity topped with granite, tiled floor, and a shower-tub combo.
Lobby
The attractive contemporary lobby has marble floors, stately columns, and a sparkling chandelier, but it’s the light-flooded atrium that gets all the attention. The space, dotted with dining tables for the breakfast services, comes alive with palm trees, tropical plants, a koi pond and a waterfall.
Pool
Just off the lobby atrium, the pool is housed in an airy space with sea-blue walls, eye-catching artwork, and chairs with bright blue cushions.
Gym
The hotel’s fitness center has cardio equipment (treadmills, stationary bikes, and elliptical trainers) as well as strength-training machines and free weights.
Dining
In addition to the hotel’s made-to-order breakfast service, the on-site NY West has a friendly neighborhood vibe and a menu of salads, pizzas, and simple, expertly grilled chops, as well as a solid wine and craft beer selection.
Drinking
The hotel hosts an evening reception with complimentary alcoholic beverages as well as kid-friendly options and light snacks.
What's Nearby
Getting Around
With the trolley stop a block away, guests can see a lot of sights without a car. The Green Line services the Gaslamp Quarter, the Santa Fe Depot (home to Amtrak and the Coaster, which services coastal communities to the north), Little Italy, Old Town, and the world-class Fashion Valley shopping center. Interstate 5, a major north-south freeway, is about a mile from the hotel; I-5 connects to other highways that cover the sprawling region.
Restaurants
The Embassy Suite is close to a number of dining options, including reliable chains like Eddie V’s Prime Seafood (5-minute walk), an elegant fine dining restaurant with a seafood and steak menu and live jazz music. For a hipper, far more unique experience, Lion’s Share (5-minute walk) is an intimate spot with lots of character, creative cocktails, and a menu of exotic items like boar sausage poutine, rabbit hand pie, and antelope sliders -- there are only a couple of non-meat items (even the PB & J biscuit is smothered in foie gras), so vegetarians should steer clear. Reservations are a good idea.
