Fodor's Expert Review
Located in Mission Valley, steps from a trolley station, this Doubletree by Hilton isn’t in the hippest location, but it’s very convenient and close to many San Diego attractions, including the world-class Fashion Valley shopping center. The attractive hotel features contemporary style, 400-square-foot standard rooms, and a large pool lined by palm trees. Hilton loyalists, in particular, will feel right at home here.
Tip Don’t even think of passing up the warm chocolate-chip cookie you’re offered upon check-in.

Restaurants
There are a number of popular chain restaurants a short walk from the hotel (Denny’s, Applebee’s, Cheesecake Factory, King’s Fish House) that make things simpler when it comes to feeding a picking family. For a taste of the type of affordable Mexican food that San Diegans of every background like to eat, check out Roberto’s (5-minute walk). The burritos, stuffed with fillings and wrapped in a fresh, lightly grilled tortilla, are especially satisfying, and there’s a salsa bar with pickled carrots and jalapenos. At Fashion Valley, Stacked: Food Well Built (10-minute walk) is a mouthful to say, but it’s also a sleek mall eatery that delivers a good mouthful of grub, all ordered via electronic tablet. The menu includes a large menu of comfort food like generously topped nachos, burgers, and pizza; you can also get a salad if you must.
