Colony Palms Hotel

572 N. Indian Canyon Dr., Palm Springs, California 92262, United States

Why We Like It

This classic boutique property is upscale and feels exclusive. Catering to a younger, affluent crowd, the pool is the perfect place to see and be seen on any given weekend. The elite and the rest of us will feel like we live in luxury when staying at this Moroccan-themed estate.

Fodor's Expert Review

This boutique hotel, situated on the edge of the Movie Colony neighborhood and the Uptown Design District, is housed in an historic building with funky flair. The property has Moroccan, Spanish, and western influences. Initially opened in the late 1930s by a mobster, today this pet-friendly lodge is a swank oasis in the center of the main Palm Springs area.

Room

All 57 rooms, suites, and private casitas are decorated in decadent gold and lush purple hues, with headboards from Morocco and a mixture of Spanish tile or hardwood floors. Casitas are airy, with comfortable leather furnishings and Spanish-tiled lined fireplaces.

You Should Know The property does allow dogs, but they must be under 40 pounds and there is a $100 fee. Though kids are welcome, this is not a super kid-friendly space.

Bathroom

The baths at the Colony Palms feel airy and glamorous. All rooms provide plush robes and bath products from C.O. Bigelow. Casitas also have clawfoot bathtubs.

Lobby

After gliding through the smooth, rounded archway, the open air entrance and Spanish-style fountain are framed by fruit trees, palms, and other local fauna. Upon entering the building, guests will find a warm but decadent-feeling space with exposed beams.

Pool

The saltwater pool, which is heated during winter months and cooled for the heat of desert summer, stretches for 65 feet. The space is surrounded by cabanas and lush gardens, with stunning views of the nearby mountains.

Spa

The Colony Palms offers multiple massage options, body wraps, facials, foot exfoliation, and packages combining any of the service categories.

Gym

The compact fitness center has basic equipment—enough to get a workout in, but it’s clear that the gym isn’t the focus at this property geared toward relaxation and enjoying the spoils of nearby downtown Palm Springs.

Dining

The Purple Palm serves what it describes as “approachable California fare” for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and also has private dining options.

Drinking

There are also multiple cocktail hours (before and after dinner) at the Purple Palm, like the three-hour-long “Sunset Hour,” which is a happy hour.
