Why We Like It
Part of the Four Sisters Inns chain of small hotels in popular vacation destinations, this property has an especially gracious staff and rooms with character, if not high style. With 27 rooms, the inn isn’t the Sonoma Plaza area’s most intimate lodging, but it manages to feel cozy, and the breakfasts are quite good.

Little luxuries delight at this well-run inn ¼-mile south of Sonoma Plaza: wine and hors-d'oeuvres are served every evening in the lobby (where a jar brims with cookies from noon to 8 p.m.), and the cheerfully painted rooms are warmed by gas fireplaces. A teddy bear perched on each feather comforter–topped bed holds a remote control to a small TV, and the closets hold fluffy terry robes that come in handy for trips to the hot tub.
Tip The inn sits just off heavily trafficked Broadway, but good soundproofing makes it quieter than many of the hotels on Sonoma Plaza.

Room
Guest rooms, softly lit and done in pastels, have comfortable beds with plenty of pillows. The rooms aren’t particularly large, but you'd be hard-pressed to find this much charm for the price elsewhere in town.
You Should Know Pets are only allowed in three rooms, so especially in summer, it’s wise to book them as far ahead as possible.
Bathroom
The bathrooms, some with walk-in showers, others with tubs, are decent-sized if not large and stocked with good-quality bath products. Four bathrooms in the Vintner's Cottage building have jetted tubs.
Lobby
The bright-yellow lobby contains sofas and chairs and a fireplace. Also here are tables (mostly deuces) and small chairs where guests enjoy the full breakfast and evening wine and hors-d'oeuvres.
Dining
The inn serves a full buffet breakfast that includes a warm entrée, along with evening wine and hors-d'oeuvres. Cookies are available from noon to 8 p.m. daily. Breakfast is the only meal here.
Drinking
The inn’s gracious hosts pour wine in the early evening, but there's no bar on-site.

Getting Around
A block and a half south of Sonoma Plaza, the inn is close to the Sonoma Mission and related historic sites, as well as shops, tasting rooms, and restaurants. More wineries and tasting rooms are a short drive away. You can pick up public buses from the plaza’s south side; a few pass by or near wineries beyond the plaza, but few visitors access them this way.
Restaurants
Several of Sonoma’s best restaurants do business within two or three blocks of the inn, among them Oso Sonoma (5-minute walk) for small farm-to-table bites, LaSalette (6-minute walk) for Portuguese cuisine, and The Girl and the Fig (8-minute walk) for French-country meals.
Bars
Slip south four blocks to the bar at Saddles Steakhouse (8-minute walk)—it’s inside the MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa—for martinis and other traditional cocktails. Sip a Glariffee coffee drink at the 1909 Swiss Hotel north of Sonoma Plaza or sparkling wine at the swank Sigh lounge west of the plaza.
