Nothing is too surprising on the financial front here: try to bring cash if you're traveling to a small town, and even if you've prepaid for a guide's services, remember to bring a little something to tip with at the end of the day or trip. Food, lodging, and sundries are going to be significantly higher in Alaska than the rest of the country, especially the more remote you go—remember, almost everything gets to Alaska via barge or approximately 2,000 miles of highway.
