Fodor's Expert Review Auberge la Maison Otis
23 rue St-Jean-Baptiste, Baie-St-Paul, Québec, G3Z 1M2, Canada
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
Three buildings in the village center make up this calm and romantic inn that's in a good location for exploring the shops and galleries. Some guest rooms, decorated in traditional or country styles, have whirlpools, fireplaces, and antique furnishings. The restaurant, in an elegant, Norman-style house that dates to the mid-1850s, offers creative, regionally oriented French cuisine using such ingredients as pintade (guinea fowl), lamb, and Angus beef. At the Café des Artistes you'll find espresso and Guinness on tap and a menu of European-style pizzas, pasta, and soup.
PROS
- lots of activities available for all age groups on-site or very nearby
- reasonable spa packages
- opportunity to see original local art works for free
CONS
- the lodging in separate buildings can be a little awkward, though there are covered, heated walkways
