Fodor's Expert Review Casa del Balam

This pleasant hotel has an excellent location two blocks from the zócalo. Comfortable rooms include colonial touches, such as red-and-white tile floors, carved cedar doors, and rocking chairs on wide verandahs; however, there are modern conveniences, too, like minibars and double-paned windows to keep out noise. The rich decor and thoughtful details make this place seem more like a home than a hotel. The open central patio in the lobby area is a lovely spot for a meal or a drink; Casa del Balam also has a small pool, and guests have access to a golf and tennis club about 20 minutes away by car.
