Tankah

If you plan on staying in the Cobá area, nearby Tankah is a good option—especially if you want to avoid the Tulum crowds. In ancient times Tankah was an important Mayan trading city. A number of small, reasonably priced hotels have cropped up here over the past few years, and several expats who own villas in the area rent them out year-round. Often overlooked by travelers, this spectacular stretch of coastline offers great snorkeling, diving, and best of all, isolation. A cenote that tunnels under the beach road and spills into the sea makes the area even more unique.
