Why We Like It

Casa Dorada boasts a superb location overlooking Médano Beach, as well as a raft of family-friendly amenities. The Saltwater Spa and 12 Tribes Restaurant are both considered among the best of their class in Cabo San Lucas.

Fodor's Expert Review

Through the dramatic entry on the stone facade you'll find this seven-floor, all-suites combination hotel–time-share has it all. In addition to the standard one-, two-, and three- bedroom suites, there are 13 impressive penthouse suites, which range from 920 to 4,500 square feet. All suites have kitchens, king beds, Jacuzzis, and two terraces. The free Kids' Club, and designated swimming pool and mini lounge chairs for children make this a family friendly spot. To relax, head to the 7,000-square-foot Saltwater Spa, where you can partake in such treatments as Chinese Ball Stimulating Massage and Couleur de Vie therapy, which combines color, aroma, and saltwater therapies. Casa Dorada's lounge offers a selection of 50 beers, including a signature mango-flavor brew; the restaurants boast creative dishes from just about every corner of the world, and the sushi bar and gelato shop are just steps from the pool.

Room

Suites rule at Casa Dorada, where every lodging sleeps at least six. Contemporary Mexican décor and art are spotlighted in all the suites, from the king-sized master bedroom--complete with gorgeous terrace views--to the kitchen, dining, and living areas. A second bedroom with two double beds is perfect for kids, and comes with a separate bathroom and kitchenette.

Bathroom

Handcrafted soaps and body washes from México’s Botanicus are showcased in all bathrooms. Telephones are also available in each bath, in case you want to order a martini while shaving.

Lobby

Bold artworks, chic furnishings, and chrome railing distinguish the impressive lobby at Casa Dorada; a spacious welcoming area that looks out over Playa El Médano--the largest and most popular beach in Cabo San Lucas--towards the evocative granite monuments at Land’s End.

Pool

Two enormous interconnected pools snake back and forth above Médano Beach, offering abundant sun and swimming opportunities for resort guests. Even the jacuzzi offers spectacular Land’s End views. A separate beach area is roped off, with cocktail service and safe swimming conditions.

Tip If the children tire of splashing around in the pool, they can explore the many fun-filled activities at the on-site Casa Kids club.

Spa

After a long and detailed renovation, The Saltwater Spa is now one of the most beautiful facilities of its kind in Los Cabos: cool and contemporary, with expansive treatment areas and a full beauty salon. Signature treatments continue to focus on the curative powers of the mineral-rich waters of the Sea of Cortés.

Gym

Morning yoga classes on the beach are among the many programs offered by the on-site gym; which, like the neighboring spa, has recently received a major facelift.

Dining

Fresh local seafood and creative Mexican cuisine headline the bill of fare at 12 Tribes, the signature restaurant at Casa Dorada. The abundant dining options also include breakfast buffets and Asian inspired treats at Maydan, Italian themed specialties at Trattoria, sushi, and sashimi at The Sushi Bar, and light comfort food fare at the poolside Okianus restaurant and swim-up bar. A small café, meanwhile, offers coffee, smoothies, and refreshing ice creams.

Drinking

Pool tables, televised sports, and a huge selection of international beers highlight the scene at The B, the wraparound bar located just beneath the lobby level. Views of swimming pools and golden sand beach beyond add to the tropical vibes.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

If your vacation plans include plenty of time at the beach, transportation is not something you’ll need to worry about. Casa Dorada is on the beach, and within easy walking distance of the marina and downtown Cabo San Lucas. Bus service to San José del Cabo is available nearby. Day trips to Todos Santos, La Paz, or the East Cape require a rental car.

Restaurants

Bar Esquina (across the street at Bahía Hotel & Beach House) serves up excellent steaks, wood-fired pizzas, and creative cocktails, and also features live music during dinner hours. Edith’s (just around the corner) has been a local benchmark for decades, renowned for its mesquite grilled entrées and colorful atmosphere.

Bars

Casa Dorada’s stretch of roped off beach area is right next to Mango Deck, the wildest of Cabo’s many beachfront cantinas. Mango Deck is ground zero during Spring Break--awash in tequila shots and bawdy bar contests--but packs in the revelers on a year-round basis. The Office on the Beach (on the other side of Mango Deck) is best known for its Thursday night Fiesta Mexicana, a dinner show showcasing mariachis, fireworks, and folkloric dancing.
