Why We Like It

The hotel has always been a magnet for boaters, thanks to its full-service marina; but it also offers very good amenities and a convenient location for those looking to visit spectacular local beaches like Playa Balandra (voted best in México in a 2016 readers’ poll by USA Today) and Playa El Tecolote.

Fodor's Expert Review

Here's a hotel with a full-service marina offering fishing, scuba diving, and kayaking. Most rooms have terraces or balconies with water views, gardens surround the pool and hot tub, and a seaside promenade lines the property. Private charters are available, so, naturally, the place is popular with boaters sailing the Sea of Cortez; they share tall tales and tips at the Dinghy Dock restaurant right on the harbor.

Room

The balcony views of the marina and Sea of Cortez are superb for most rooms, which range from standard doubles to junior and master suites.

Bathroom

Spacious soak tubs offer an excellent relaxation option after a tough day at the beach.

Lobby

24-hour service is available at the front-desk in the business-like lobby.

Pool

The pristinely maintained pool is large enough to swim laps in, although you’ll have to stay in the center to avoid the inset landscaping under the mid-point pedestrian bridge. The jacuzzi is only a few feet away.

Spa

The on-site Nautilus Spa is open during business hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and specializes in massages and salon services like manicures and pedicures.

Gym

There is no gym, but active types can work up a sweat on the tennis court.

Dining

The seaside Dinghy Dock offers nautical charm and plenty of fresh local seafood, as well as Mexican and American favorites.

Tip Breakfast is included with many room packages.

Drinking

Ice cold cervezas, tropical cocktails, and a pool table are the main attractions at the Liparoli Bar, where the television is also tuned to the latest sporting events.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Hotel Marina is not pedestrian friendly. Taxi service is available to downtown La Paz, where the bus station offers regular service to regional destinations like Todos Santos and Los Cabos. Rental cars, however, are the preferred option, and necessary for day trips to beautiful local beaches like Playa Pichilingue, Playa Balandra, and Playa El Tecolote.

Restaurants

Palapa Azul (Playa El Tecolote, 20-minute drive on the Carretera Pichilingue) is the go-to spot to eat chocolate clams and marlin en escabeche on the beach while enjoying picturesque views of uninhibited offshore island Espíritu Santo. Lovers of burgers and beer, meanwhile, will want to visit Bandido’s (12-minute drive to Calle Topete at Antonio Navarro).

Bars

Jonathan Roldan’s Tailhunter International (5-minute drive to Paseo Álvaro Obregón, overlooking the broad seaside malecón) is the preferred perch for sipping margaritas and observing the capital city’s famed sunsets.
