Diving and Snorkeling

More than 30 dive sites in the area range from deep canyons to shallow reefs. The waters teem with sea life, and visibility is generally excellent.

Dive Zihua. Portuguese-born PADI instructor João Gouveia owns this downtown dive shop, which offers one-, two-, and three-tank dives ($65, $90, and $120, respectively) in 18-person covered pangas to various dive sites in the area, plus night dives, PADI certification, and more. If you want to contact the shop, it's usually best to email or drop by in person some afternoon before you want to go diving. El Vigia. El Vigia rents snorkel gear (MX$100 per hour) and arranges boat trips to snorkel spots at Isla Ixtapa or Playa Manzanillo, about an hour's ride south. Playa la Ropa, at the south end, Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, 40880. 755/554–9402 ask for Sergio.
