Fodor's Expert Review Mia Cancún
Blvd. Kukulcán, Km 11.5, Cancún, Quintana Roo, 77500, Mexico
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Amid the big, sleek resorts lining the Zona Hotelera, this spot (formerly the Avalon Baccara) stands out for its small size and rustic design. Arched doorways, Mexican artifacts, and bamboo ceilings adorn the lobby of the wine-color hotel. Although dimensions differ, rooms generally follow the overall theme, meaning most have carved wooden furniture, mosaic tile bathrooms, and traditional artwork; suites have balconies with hot tubs, as well as living rooms, dining areas, and kitchens. Room No. 205, a two-bedroom apartment, is a great value for couples traveling together. A billiard table and quiet lounging area provide a change of pace from the Cancún party scene. Mia Cancún is set to undergo a full renovation in 2015 that will turn it into more of an upscale boutique hotel.
