The boundaries of the southern Caribbean coast’s preeminent wildlife refuge aren’t well defined. You’ll pass in and out of the forested reserve as you drive southeast from Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. The village of Manzanillo remains an "end of the world" kind of place. Tourism is still in its infancy this far down the coast, though with the road paved all the way here, the town is a popular destination among people from Limón for weekend day trips. The rest of the week, you'll likely have the place to yourself.
