Witch's Rock. Witch's Rock towers offshore over a near-perfect beach break off Playa Naranjo in Santa Rosa National Park. The massive boulder once howled and whistled, causing passersby to believe the rock was haunted by a witch. In reality, it was only the offshore winds billowing between the water and stone that made the eerie sound. Years of erosion have silenced the howling, but the boulder, and the name, remain. If you are interested in surfing Witch's Rock, take a boat tour from Playas del Coco, Playa Hermosa, or Playa Tamarindo, to the south. Tropic Surf offers surf trips to Witch's Rock from its shop at Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo. Santa Rosa National Park, Guanacaste.
