A set four-course dinner, by reservation only, served at 8 pm sharp, in the home of prodigy-chef Mario Rivera, makes this underground supper club one of the most memorable restaurants on the coast. On the open brick patio, guests share a communal table adorned with tea-light candles and fresh flowers. Come with an open mind as the chef and his charming wife Ericka serve beautifully prepared dishes made from Mario’s daily spearfishing catch. You’re likely to try yellowfin tuna with passion-fruit sauce, needlefish marinated in fresh herbs, or parrot fish and roasted tomatoes topped with lobster bisque. Everything is made from scratch, and they will gladly accommodate vegetarians or those with gluten-free diets. The $65 set menu includes two appetizers, an entrée, and dessert like the creamy raspberry-wine gelato. Since there’s no drinks menu, plan to bring your own wine. A 50% deposit is required before dining. Once you fall in love with the adorable hosts, set aside a day for their cooking class, spearfishing tour, or Spanish lessons available upon request.
