Chauffeur-driven town cars snake around the block day and night at the InterContinental Madrid, a classically decorated hotel frequented by dignitaries, diplomats, and other international bigwigs. Situated on the on the skyscraper-lined Castellana mall and removed from the tourist hubbub (you’ll need to take the metro to most attractions), the InterContinental is a dependable option for business travelers, families, and other visitors who favor comfort and service over centrality and trendiness. A fine-dining restaurant, sunny terrace, and an above-and-beyond concierge service round out the offerings.

Dark-wood accents, heavy patterned curtains, and Victorian-style armchairs give rooms a cozy grandmotherly feel, though some may deem them overly stuffy.

The InterContinental is rather removed from most of Madrid’s top tourist attractions, so you’ll be making good use of the metro: Walk five minutes to Rubén Darío (Line 5) or three minutes to Gregorio Marañón (Line 10).
Restaurants
Calle Ponzano, Madrid’s trendiest (and least touristy) tapas street, is a five-minute walk from the hotel. Start your evening at Sala de Despiece, an ultramodern bar serving small plates derived from hand-selected local meats and vegetables, before making your way to Toque de Sal, a swanky bistro-style restaurant that treats ingredients like art.
Bars
You’ll want to venture slightly south of the hotel to the Salamanca district for exciting nightlife. There’s Ten con Ten (12-minute walk), the buttoned-up “gin bar” that incited Madrid's gin tónic frenzy a decade ago that hasn’t abated since. After a cocktail there, make your way to Arts Club (13-minute walk), a buzzy bar and discoteca that heats up on the weekends with international DJ sets.
