Why We Like It

Dear Hotel feels chic and modern without going over the top. It’s the sort of property that fills up during Madrid Fashion Week due to its boutique size, impeccable interiors, and see-and-be-seen atmosphere. But you don’t have to be a designer or a model to appreciate the hotel’s signature details such as sunlit rooms, soft linens, and rooftop dining. Outside the hotel, you’ll find most of Madrid’s famous sites at a short walk away, lending this property a winning combination of comfort and convenience.

Fodor's Expert Review

Located on Gran Vía overlooking the tree-lined Plaza de España, Dear Hotel is a sleek urban property designed by Tarruella Trenchs Studio, the firm behind such lauded projects as H10 La Mimosa hotel in Barcelona and La Bien Aparecida restaurant in Madrid. Its homey, minimalist rooms—think blond woods, white sheets, and square wall molding—flood with natural light, and some even boast outdoor street-facing patios.

You Should Know The hotel does not feature a gym or spa, a potential deal-breaker for health-conscious guests.

Room

With muted earth tones and soft edges, the meticulously designed rooms are calming and current without being pretentious. There’s not a bad seat in the house, either: All rooms face Gran Vía, which means bright light and gorgeous sunsets (especially for those on the top floors) for all.

Bathroom

Black tiles and wood accents add pizzazz to the spacious bathrooms, which also feature robes, slippers, and quality bath products.

Lobby

Though you’ll find a couple of comfy couches by the front window, you’ll want to get in and get out of this slightly claustrophobic lobby. Kick back at the rooftop Nice to Meet You bar and restaurant instead.

Pool

The rooftop pool is overhyped, considering its lilliputian size and questionable cleanliness.

Dining

Though the sweeping views of Casa de Campo and the historic center may be the main allure at Nice to Meet You, Dear Hotel's rooftop bar and restaurant, don’t overlook the boldly flavored fusion dishes such as Iberian pulled-pork gyozas and yuzu-scented croaker ceviche.

Drinking

Sunsets are spectacular from the shaded roof deck at Nice to Meet You bar, especially with a cold glass of cava, Spanish sparkling wine, between your fingertips.

Tip Snag a table on Friday or Saturday night, and you may be treated to a DJ set.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

This hotel’s westerly location means you’re close to the Royal Palace and surrounding sites, but you’ll want to take the metro at Plaza de España (Lines 3 and 10) or Santo Domingo (Line 2) to reach the Retiro park and “Golden Triangle” museums.

Restaurants

Walk ten minutes northeast, and you’ll be in the heart of Chueca, an upscale neighborhood known for its winding streets, gay-friendly atmosphere, and charming restaurants. Whet your appetite with Canary Island delicacies at Siete Delicatessen inside Mercado de San Antón (5-minute walk), a renovated market whose top two floors are packed with tapas stalls. From there, head a block north to Atlántico, a shiny new Galician restaurant known for its pristine raw seafood, or get your fungi fix at the neighboring El Cisne Azúl, an old-school joint specializing in mushroom dishes.

Bars

Beer lovers unite at Fábrica Maravillas (11-minute walk), Madrid’s only city-center brewpub. Choose from a dozen draft beers that were brewed just steps from your barstool. If cocktails are more your speed, duck into La Bicicleta, a retro café one block up that transforms into a low-key, dimly lit bar by night.
