A Coruña

One of Spain’s busiest ports, A Coruña is often (mistakenly) overlooked by travelers. While the weather can be fierce, wet, and windy, it does give way to bouts of sunshine (it’s not uncommon to experience all in one day). This unpredictable weather, along with a thriving commercial center and intriguing historic quarter, gives the city and its people its unique, endearing personality. A Coruña takes pride in its gastronomy and there is a buzzing nightlife scene, as well as a host of interesting sights, including the world’s oldest still-functioning lighthouse. Its shining jewel is the city’s emblematic row of glass-enclosed, white-paned galleries on the houses that line the harbor—a remarkable sight when the light catches them on a sunny day.
