Fodor's Expert Review

The newest and one of the best members on the lifestyle hotel block, The Edition Barcelona is a fun and flirty spot that combines high design, an ideal location, and lots of activities to make this hotel the hottest place to be in the center of town. Not only are the rooms spacious and modern, the hotel also has an incredible F&B program that includes a stunning rooftop, basement cabaret, and hidden alcoves waiting to be discovered. Travelers familiar with the brand’s other hotels around the world will feel at home here as the young, creative, and vivacious vibes permeate everything on the property.

Room

Simple, minimalistic-styled rooms have handcrafted leather headboards, hardwood floors, white walls, and window-side banquettes. Framed photos hang above the beds and designer furniture gives the room an added pop. All come with faux fur blankets (an Edition specialty), gray area rugs, smart TVs (Netflix fans rejoice), and Bluetooth speakers. Water and Nespresso is also standard and changed out every day.

Bathroom

Gold-framed ornate mirrors hover over sunken, white marble sinks and floors. Gold fittings are prominent in the peek-a-boo, not-for-the-prude rain showers. Depending on room category, you’ll find separate tubs or shower/bath combinations. Le Labo products are excellent and probably theft-worthy.

Lobby

Modern and sleek wood design is everywhere in this hotel and most distinguished in the lobby, where hardwood floors meet clean wood walls and Catalan-inspired furnishings. To one side is the lobby bar with 20-foot high back-lit liquor shelves that will make anyone thirsty for heavy pours and Instagram postings.

Tip The white spiral staircase in the lobby is an Edition signature feature. Also, don’t mind the menacing security that’s constantly patrolling the property. It’s overkill, but at least you know the hotel isn’t letting in any stragglers.

Pool

The stunning salt water plunge pool on the hotel’s rooftop provides guests with stellar views of the city that reach all the way to the Mediterranean. It’s technically only open in the summer, but if you feel like freezing, have at it in January.

Gym

A small gym is open 24/7 and features an array of equipment including treadmills, free weights, and cardio machines. There are always headphones and water available for guests.

Dining

There are multiple outlets here and each is unique. On the lobby level is Bar Veraz, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner where diners can choose from a coastal Mediterranean menu as they sit below Catalan photographs from the 1960s. On the 10th floor roof, a menu with Latin-American inspired dishes is available all day. The main event takes place in the basement though, where Cabaret is a food-forward spot that combines fine, innovative dining with avant-garde erotic dance shows.

Drinking

The drinking options mirror the eating options with a couple of exceptions. The lobby bar and the rooftop are great for mixed drinks and socializing. The Cabaret – post-dinner – becomes more of a club space for late-night dancing. And then there’s the hidden Punch Room, a posh space with lush leather furniture, a pool table, and specialty punch drinks that are certain to get your night off to the right start.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel is just off Via Laietana, a main thoroughfare that runs from the Marina to the Eixample neighborhood. Across the main street is the Gothic Quarter, which is a windy and historic area that’s perfect for getting lost in. If you want to get further afield, there are a couple of metro stops nearby and bus stops all along the street.

Restaurants

Right next door to the hotel is the Santa Caterina Market (1-minute walk) which features dozens of food stalls and restaurants that are ideal for sampling local foods. For some unbelievable paella from a Bib Gourmand Michelin restaurant, head over to Senyor Parellada (5-minute walk).

Bars

Wine lovers should make their way to Bar Brutal (4-minute walk) for vino by the barrel in a chill and casual space. For something a little swankier, check out Sky Bar (2-minute walk) inside the Grand Hotel Central, which is a rooftop spot known for its epic views and great cocktails. You can even see The Edition from the pool.
