H10 Montcada Boutique Hotel

Via Laietana 24, Barcelona, Catalonia 08003, Spain

Why We Like It

The hotel harkens back to a time where exploring and travel had an air of refinement and gentility and this can be seen in its design and its friendly and helpful staff. The small boutique doesn’t have a restaurant for lunch or dinner and there’s no spa or gym, but it more than makes up for these things with an incredible rooftop and an ideal location. If you want to feel like an imperial explorer as you dart between the narrow alleys of the Gothic Quarter, than this might be the hotel for you.

Fodor's Expert Review

This scholarly property has the distinct feel of a well-read traveler’s lounge from the 1950s (Hemingway-esque. Yeah that feels right). Throughout this boutique you’ll find bookish touches from leather-bound furnishings, travel-related paraphernalia, and loads of mahogany to take you back to an era of colonial adventure. A small boutique, this ideally located abode is across the street from the famed Barcelona Cathedral and any number of attractions in the city.

Room

Tasteful rooms have bright, white walls, brown leather furnishings and headboards, and dark wood floors. All come with welcome biscuits (nice touch) as well as Nespresso machines and bottled water free of charge.

You Should Know There’s only one room in the hotel with a balcony and rooms with city views cost a bit extra. Worth it though.

Bathroom

Decked out with Ritual bath products, the bathrooms are awash with marble floors and counters and have a mix of shower/tub combos or solo showers. Bidets are standard and the slippers take-home-worthy.

Lobby

The lobby evokes a feeling of turn-of-the-century exploration with a mix of red, green, and argyle couches and the Travelers Bar in the back that offers free coffee throughout the day.

Pool

There’s no pool – there is a hot tub – and lots of lazy loungers on the wooden rooftop deck for all-day sunbathing with epic views of the Barcelona Cathedral across the street.

Dining

The aptly named Library Restaurant is the breakfast-only spot in the basement of the hotel. Sitting between book-lined wallpaper, guests are treated to a buffet or made-to-order goodies each morning.

Drinking

Open from noon-midnight, the Sunset Bar features unbeatable views of the Cathedral, the Mediterranean, and La Sagrada Familia. It’s an ideal spot for late day drinks before a night out in the neighborhood. The Travelers Bar in the lobby is perfect for that last drink before heading out for the night.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel is between the Born neighborhood and Gothic Quarter which means you’re walking distance to amazing attractions, restaurants, nightlife, and shopping areas. There’s a metro stop across the street which also makes for convenient traveling to farther areas of the city.

Restaurants

If you’re a fan of tapas (who isn’t?), then head over to Lonja de Tapas (5-minute walk) for a true classic spot with all the finger foods of your dreams. Interested in Basque cuisine? Check out Sagardi (10-minute walk) for authentic pinxtos and grilled meats.

Bars

For the bar of your dreams (or nightmares – probably nightmares), you should check out Bosc de la Fades (10-minute walk) where drinks come with a fantastical landscape and creepy characters in all corners of the establishment. Next door to the hotel is Sky Bar (1-minute walk) atop the Grand Hotel Central where a swanky scene of revelers down mixed drinks over epic views.
