Fodor's Expert Review Cuillin Hills Hotel
Off A855, Portree, Highland, IV51 9QU, Scotland
This delightful Victorian-era hunting lodge looks down on Portree and the brightly painted houses around the harbor. The stylish and understated rooms have hints of tartan, with many offering fine views over Portree Bay (ask for a sea-facing room), while the spacious dining room serves meals rich in local produce, especially seafood. There is a large bar and a separate whisky bar for connoisseurs, with more than 150 bottlings in stock. The popular "Scorrybreac Circuit," a lovely 45-minute coastal walk, starts from just below the hotel.
PROS
- a short stroll from Portree
- good breakfast menu
- attentive service
CONS
- rooms at back overpriced
- restaurant can be full
- no elevator
