Why We Like It

While the design is nothing to write home about, the hotel is bright and clean with a very helpful staff that will help you make the most of your trip. Located in prime Trastevere real estate, you'll get a taste of Roman life from morning to night. Given its location, the hotel also host lots of visitors of nearby John Cabot University students. The plant-covered terrace is also an added bonus if you're looking for a moment of quiet.

Fodor's Expert Review

In the heart of Trastevere and across the Tiber from the main synagogue is Hotel Carmel, a family-run, budget-friendly place to stay. It's also a certified kosher hotel. The staff are eager to please, and there are two kitchens that guests can use in order to help them keep kosher while on vacation; alternatively, prepared kosher meals can also be arranged. Rooms are basic, and not all have private baths, so be sure to inquire when booking. Breakfast is served on the veranda overlooking the terrace. A kosher breakfast can also be arranged for €5 extra per person per day.

Tip Pets are welcome here if you plan in advance.

Rooms are bright and cheerfully decorated in warm colors and tile flooring. A variety of offerings include single, triple and four-bed rooms. Tea and coffee service is provided and all rooms also have a fridge, safe, and TV. Pillows are flat and old so you may need to ask for extras.
