Camigliatello

Lined with chalets, Camigliatello is one of the Sila Massif's major resort towns. Most of the Sila isn't mountainous at all; rather, it's an extensive, sparsely populated plateau with areas of thick forest. There was, at one point, considerable deforestation, but in 1968 the area received a special designation as the Parco Nazionale della Sila, and strict rules have limited the felling of timber, which has allowed the forests to regenerate. There are well-marked trails through pine and beech woods and ample opportunities for horseback riding. Autumn sees droves of locals hunting mushrooms and gathering chestnuts; winter brings crowds to nearby ski slopes.
