Clayton Hotel Burlington Road

Upper Leeson St., Dublin, Co. Dublin, 4, Ireland, Dublin, Ireland

Why We Like It

Come for the reputation, stay for the reliably efficient business service (or indeed the large conference center). The Clayton is a modern and well-run property on the edge of the city center that delivers on a quiet, comfortable night's accommodation and professional service without really knocking anyone's socks off. But sometimes that's all you're looking for.

Fodor's Expert Review

Once it was the haunt of Irish and international celebrities partying the night away; now it's a reliable, standard business-style chain hotel in Dublin's Southside, still a landmark for many in the city despite its impersonal exterior of glass and concrete. So the glory days are gone, but the hotel itself is still a large, reasonably well-located option with plenty of facilities for guests.

Room

Rooms are generously sized, in a modern minimalist style, with neutral tones and large picture windows. Blackout blinds are welcome for light sleepers in summer.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are also of reasonable proportions, and clean, with showers over baths.

You Should Know The hotel is currently undergoing some renovation works (as of summer 2018) to bring its facilities up to scratch - water pressure, better air conditioning, etc. So hopefully a few of the issues will be sorted soon.

Lobby

Public spaces feel a little bland but staff are in the main helpful and welcoming.

Gym

The hotel has a fitness center for guests that's open from 6am-11pm.

Dining

Breakfast is not bad, and dinner can be had in the hotel's B-Bar, which serves pub classics.

Drinking

The aforementioned B-Bar is where it's at, a cool drinking haunt that whispers of the hotel's glam past with its dining booths and long central bar. The Lobby Lounge also offers Red Bean Roastery coffee in the daytimes.

Tip The bar, with 20 live screens, is also a good spot when there are big sporting events on at the nearby Aviva stadium and RDS - get there early as it can get busy.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel is right on the edge of the center, making it a quiet place to stay that can feel a little cut-off - but it's only less than 20 minutes on foot into the main sights, and public transport is very easy, both to the center and the airport.

Restaurants

Dax (10-minute walk) offers great food in a refined setting. Or Roly's Bistro (18-minute walk) is a proper traditional old bistro, with all of the local authenticity that entails.

Bars

Searsons (9-minute walk), a traditional Irish boozer, is another good option on match days. Or chic wine bar Ely Place (17-minute walk), close to St Stephen's Green, has a different and altogether more refined vibe entirely.
