Fodor's Expert Review Le Couvent des Minimes

Chemin des Jeux de Maï, Mane, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 04300, France

It makes sense that L'Occitane, the regionally based cosmetics and fragrance giant, would have a spa hotel in the heart of lavender country, but this property is also housed in a 17th-century convent amid a medieval perched village—offering Provence-style old-world seclusion alongside modern luxury. All of the cozy rooms have pretty Provençal touches; most rooms have lovely views that you can also enjoy from the courtyard pool or the fragrance garden and grounds. The highlight, of course, is the spa, which has a full-range of treatments featuring L'Occitane's lusciously fragrant products.

PROS

  • two gastronomic restaurants and a wine bar
  • one of the region's most famous spas
  • historical setting

CONS

  • spa treatments are expensive
  • rude staff and lackluster service have been issues for some guests
  • restaurant is pricey
