Fodor's Expert Review La Cour des Loges

6 rue du Bœuf, Lyon, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 69005, France Fodor's Choice

King Juan Carlos of Spain, Céline Dion, and the Rolling Stones have all graced this former convent whose glowing fireplaces, Florentine crystal chandeliers, Baroque credenzas, and guest rooms swathed in antique Lyon silks now make monastic austerity a very distant memory. Set around an arcaded and glassed-in Renaissance courtyard, the rooms are as chic and comfortable as any in Lyon. Best of all, the Michelin-starred restaurant, Les Loges, is one of Lyon's best, with a graceful dining room, a cellar-level wine bar, a separate café-épicerie restaurant with a lovely vaulted ceiling and, best of all, chef Anthony Bonnet, one of Lyon's top young talents.

PROS

  • top Vieux Lyon location
  • friendly and meticulous service
  • extraordinary restaurant

CONS

  • hard on the budget
  • could stand some remodeling
  • bar is not as cozy as you would think
