Margaux is home to the eponymous appellation that landed more châteaux in the original wine classification of 1855 than any other in Bordeaux. The appellation was a favorite of Thomas Jefferson, who supposedly ordered several cases of the 1784 Château Margaux during a visit to the region. But the unexciting village of Margaux itself still wouldn't be much without the famed terroir that surrounds it.
