Fodor's Expert Review Dickens World

Filling an aluminum-clad hangar in a giant shopping center, Dickens World is a literary theme park. Inside is a beautifully designed Victorian London scene where you can walk down an alley and enter re-created shops and houses from the period. Entry is by 90-minute guided tour only, led by costumed actors. The tours give you an overview of both Dickens's work and the Victorian age in which he lived, complete with authentic-seeming sights, sounds, and smells. In December the park is taken over by a Christmas market. This place is very popular with families with young kids, and it's sometimes closed for private events, so it's essential to call ahead to check opening times.
Tickets for the 3:30 pm tours are always a couple of pounds cheaper than the regular entry price. Kids under three get in free all day.
